Upper Back Pain

Overview
Upper back pain often results from thoracic stiffness, postural fatigue, myofascial tightness, or referred neck and scapular tension. This is especially common among desk workers, drivers, and individuals with rounded-shoulder posture, or people who use mobile phones a lot.
Our remedial treatment approach targets these sources directly assessing thoracic mobility, scapular function, and muscular overuse patterns across the upper back and shoulders.
During the session
Your session is all about helping your body let go of tension and move, breathe more freely.
- Relaxing massage techniques (Swedish-style) to warm up the upper back.
- Focused work on knots and tight spots-also called trigger points-in the muscles around your shoulders and spine.
- Gentle cupping therapy to release stuck fascia and improve blood flow.
- Stretching and breathing work to open up your posture and help your nervous system relax.
- For some, light lymphatic drainage may help if you feel puffy or swollen in the neck/upper back area.
All of this is done at your pace, with clear communication throughout, so you feel safe and supported.
Treatment Recommendations
You can book a 30, 60, or 90-minute session depending on how you’re feeling:
- 30 minutes: Great for spot-treatments specifically between the shoulder blades or one side of the back.
- 60 minutes: Our go-to option for postural tension and stress-related tightness.
- 90 minutes: Perfect for deeper, longer-standing tension that’s built-up over time.
Most people start with a few weekly sessions, then check in once a month or as needed. We’ll also help you figure out what changes (like how you sit or stretch) can keep the pain from coming back.
