Post-surgical Rehabilitation

Overview
Surgery is just the first step - what happens afterwards is where true recovery and rehabilitation begins.
Even after a “successful operation,” it’s common to experience swelling, scar tissue tightness, restricted movement, and compensatory pain in other areas. Your body has to re-learn how to move without guarding, reconnect with normal function, and recover tissue mobility.
Remedial treatment plays a key role in this second stage of healing. This works best in conjunction with potential exercises prescribed by your physio.
We help support circulation, reduce fluid buildup, soften scar adhesions, and rebuild comfort with movement - gently, progressively, and with full respect to your current stage of recovery.
During the session
- We begin by understanding your surgical history, current symptoms, and medical clearance.
- Treatment is always gentle and adaptive. We may work above or around the surgical site initially, using light fascial glides, trigger point therapy, and muscle release to support the surrounding tissue.
- Over time, as healing progresses, we can address deeper restrictions, postural compensation, and reloading patterns.
- Your comfort and feedback guide the process. We never push through resistance—we work with the body, not against it.
- Many clients report less stiffness, reduced swelling, improved scar mobility, and increased confidence in movement after just a few sessions.
Treatment Recommendations
Our sessions are adapted based on surgery type, recovery phase, and your goals:
- 30 minutes: For small-site focus (e.g., wrist, ankle, hand surgeries)
- 60 minutes: Ideal for regional recovery (e.g., shoulder, hip, knee replacement, spinal decompression)
- 90 minutes: Recommended when multiple areas are compensating, or for complex surgeries (e.g., full joint replacements, abdominal surgeries with gait impact)
Typical treatment timelines:
- Weeks 2–6 post-op: 2–3 sessions/week to manage swelling and tissue response
- Weeks 7–12: Weekly sessions to restore mobility and movement patterning
- Beyond 12 weeks: Ongoing support every 2–4 weeks, depending on rehab or training demands
We’re happy to work in coordination with your physiotherapist, specialist, or GP as part of a broader recovery plan.
