Frozen Shoulder, Scapular Pain, Shoulder Pain

Overview
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), scapular pain, and general shoulder dysfunction are often related to capsular tightness, rotator cuff overload, postural strain, or referred tension from the neck and thoracic spine.
At North Hobart Massage, we use evidence-based remedial treatment techniques to restore mobility, reduce inflammation, and improve neuromuscular coordination.
Our assessment focuses on identifying soft tissue restrictions, muscular imbalances, and compensatory movement patterns.
Whether you’re experiencing pain lifting your arm, sleeping on your side, or reaching overhead, we can help develop a structured treatment plan that supports functional recovery.
During the session
- Myofascial release and deep tissue massage for the rotator cuff group, deltoid, subscapularis, and surrounding thoracic musculature.
- Trigger point therapy targeting the infraspinatus, supraspinatus, and rhomboids, which often refers pain around the scapula.
- Passive range-of-motion techniques to safely address capsular stiffness (especially in frozen shoulder cases).
- Postural correction and movement testing to assess scapular tracking and shoulder mechanics.
- Dry needling, to reduce pain, tissue swollen, and gain more range of motion.
Treatment Recommendations
We offer 30, 60, and 90-minute remedial treatment sessions, chosen based on your condition:
- 30 minutes: For spot treatment, follow-up sessions, such as scapular or posterior cuff tension.
- 60 minutes: Best for standard shoulder cases, allowing us to treat both front and back as well as nearby contributing areas (e.g. neck, upper back).
- 90 minutes: Ideal for chronic or complex presentations like frozen shoulder with neck compensation or multi-regional dysfunction.
Your therapist will recommend a duration based on mobility loss, severity, and activity goals. Most shoulder conditions benefit from weekly sessions for 3-6 weeks, followed by reassessment and corrective home care support.
